The project that contains 14 compositions, aim to explore the visual limits between the objective and the subjective within photography. I was interested in the idea of going beyond the tangible or material. One of the features that I like about photography is its paradoxical power to express something subjective, through the objective lenses of the camera.
The starting point to built the project, appeared when I was living a long distance relationship, constantly changing my place, moving around and travelling. Those situations that produce a feeling of strangeness or nostalgia when perceiving the ordinary. Everyday things, objects or spaces, suddenly change and become unfamiliar or otherworldly. The artworks show a different range of moods, and a psychological or melancholic perception of reality. Some of the pictures have been digitally manipulated, overlaid and mixed with block colors to suggest those perceptions.
The title makes reference to the concept of disreality, as mentioned by Barthes, in his book ‘Lover’s discourse’, when two lovers are apart: “a sentiment of absence and withdrawal of reality experienced by the amorous subject, confronting the world”.
Some of the frequent topics that inspire my work would be: different impressions about human relationships, their complexity, vulnerability and sometimes their impossibility. Other subsequent themes that arise within the work are: strangeness, loss, memory, time and the study about the couple and self-portraiture.
